This is the album where the Brother Ali we’ve come to know found his voice. Ali refers to this debut studio album as the seed that gave life to the many facets of his songwriting that emerged over the course of his career. Produced entirely by ANT, Ali flexed his battle rap muscles (Champion, When The Beat Comes In, Star Quality), showcased his storytelling abilities (Dorian, Prince Charming), explored autobiographic vulnerability (Picket Fence, Win Some Lose Some), and laid the foundation for his social and spiritual lens (Shadows On The Sun, Victory, Soul Whisper).
Most notably, a glorified interlude dedicated to the unconventional-looking, academy-award-winning movie star Forest Whittaker found Ali rhapsodizing about his own unique image on the Hip Hop stage. The song wasn’t a single, never got a video, and was never pushed to radio, but it became Brother Ali’s most requested fan favorite.
