The Freshest Kids

After years of earning their road-dog tags opening for other artists, Brother Ali and DJ BK-One got their chance to headline with the release of “The Undisputed Truth” album in 2007.

Their intention was to channel the energy of the legendary Motown & Stax review concerts, with one band backing a full bill of artists. Not several individual sets with breaks between bands, but a continuous locomotive of energy that builds throughout the night and erupts in a full collaboration at the end.

They curated their headlining tours with BK-One constructing and DJing the entire bill. Toki Wright played the opening set, hosted, and did back-up vocals for all the artists. The same sound and stage crew supported the entire package of performers.

When it was time to craft the Fresh Air Tour in support of Ali’s third album “Us”, they produced a tour theme song featuring all the artists on the bill. The song served the double purpose of giving fans a preview of what was to come ahead of the tour and providing a climactic finale performance for an already electric live experience.

The Freshest Kids, the first in the tour anthem series, features Brother Ali and BK-One on the beat, with Toki Wright and Evidence trading rhymes with Ali.  The song’s title is a nod to the classic B-Boy documentary of the same name.
